we're still here...

Still in the hospital.  No word when things may get back to "normal" either.  Today was not such a great day...definitely not how we had made plans to spend our day.  She had a MRI first thing this morning, only to return to her room in pain and discomfort that would last all day.  Today, the morphine really wasn't helping.  She had many visitors, but I could tell behind that forced smile on her face just how bad she was hurting.

you got this, girl!

Tonight on my drive home, I decided to have a pitty party.  It had been a long day, I was mad, and really frustrated.  It's not fair that she's having to endure so much pain AGAIN for a second time!  The first time was bad enough to last her forever!  Now, she's faced with more pain, more sickness, and more fear.  How could this be happening to one of His faithful servants?  I knew He heard our pleas and cries....why wasn't He doing anything?!?  How long was she going to have to continue to suffer before something happened?

Finally got myself together and turned on the radio.  I heard a song that went a little something like this...

Do you wonder why you have to
Feel the things that hurt you
If there's a God who loves you where is He now

Maybe there are things you can't see
And all those things are happening
To bring a better ending  ...

Come on you've gotta wait for the light
Press on and just fight the good fight
Cause the pain that you've been feeling
It's just the hurt before the healing

And then, when the song went off, a guy came on and quoted 1Peter 5:6-7
6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

The party was over.  I wiped my face and began thanking Him for grace and forgiveness, along with healing and comfort for my momma.

Thank you for your faithful prayers...we all need them now more than ever.  Be back tomorrow.

Not much change...

Hey y'all! Not much change with mom tonight. Pretty much feels the same as yesterday. Still having some pain, but her "new friend," the morphine button, always seems to help a little. She's been sick a little today, and from time to time, a bit nauseated. Still no word on when she will get to go home. Think she was feeling a little discouraged when I left, so please pray for her. It's really hard on everyone, but especially the one with the tremendous pain and unknowing fear. Even when she's feeling a little weak an possibly defeated, she's still the strongest person ever!! I'm so grateful to be able to call her, "mom!"

Thank you to all the visitors today. We all appreciate you taking time to stop by, even the ones that she didn't get to see because of sickness.

Thank you everyone for the prayers. Continue to lift her up tonight. Be back tomorrow.

Ciara

quick update...

Just left Mom not too long ago, and she was resting well. Between the morphine, for pain, and benadryl, for itching from the morphine, she was snoozing away.

An oncologist stopped by this morning and told her he would probably keep her a couple of days until they could get her pain under control again. It's kind of like the same process that had to go through in Birmingham before Christmas. They have to find the right combo of medications that work well enough together to ease the pain that she's having in her arm. Even though she was pretty much out of it this afternoon/tonight while I was there, I could still tell she was hurting some by the faces she would make or the way she would bury her feet in the covers from time to time. She was in good spirits, but I also know that she's tired and extremely ready for all of this to be over with.

So, that's how I left her tonight. We really don't know anything other than that. The doctor will be around again tomorrow sometime, and I will update then.

Thank you all for the prayers, comments and sweet words. They are so encouraging and needed.

In this storm, I am held,
It is well, with my soul.

Prayers Needed!!!

Severe pain has set back in to mother's tumor spot tonight. It's really bad, like when she was in the hospital and they couldn't get it under control. They are on their way to the hospital in Dothan as I type this. Her Birmingham doctors think this will be the best because her pain level is so high. They have called ahead and are waiting for her.

I so vividly remember being by her side during those awful, gut-wrenching hours when they pain would set in and be so intolerable. It's something I will always remember. I ask that you pray tonight for relief, comfort, and wisdom for the doctors to find out why the pain is back.

I just heard today on the radio a song that said, "every heartache slips through your hands.". How powerful that is! I know he hears our cries tonight!!

happy day!

Happy Easter!!!  We have all had a fun, beautiful day celebrating our risen Lord today, and hope you have too!

I just realized I never posted after Mom's last doctor's appointment in Birmingham.  She found out that she was just having a delayed reaction from her radiation....that's where the extreme tiredness and fatigue was coming from.  It was a huge relief to hear that nothing else medically was wrong with her!!!  Power of prayer people!!!!  Doctor ordered rest and lots of it!

She started feeling better a couple of days after returning from Birmingham, thank goodness.  Recent milestones include a decrease in pain medication, staying up longer with fewer naps, and having the energy to feel somewhat "normal" again.  We are very thankful for the wonderful weekend we have just had celebrating a wonderful, new marriage and an empty tomb!

Here are a few pics from the weekend...

I know my Grandmother was saying, "Happy Day!" today up in Heaven.  Today was, for sure, a day of celebration...hope your day was as special as ours!

And we're back...

We are back today at the oncology center at UAB with mom. She had been doing really well since she got home. She was following doctor's orders and not doing hardly anything but resting. However, she hasn't been doing well at all for a little over a week now. She has been in bed for the majority of her days since last Friday. Some of those days she might get up and move to the living room to rest, but most have been spent in her bed resting away. We are really concerned with her health and progress, or lack there of. Her appointment is this afternoon, and I will be back to let you all know what Dr. Keene tells her.

We had a very stormy drive last night...here's a pic I snapped through the front seat...the lightning was amazing!!
