Out and About...

Today was just like "old times." I got Mom out for a little to enjoy the beautiful day. She did so well!! We enjoyed lunch together, saw sweet friends, and did a little shopping. She's a little tired, but overall, did great!! Here's a pic from lunch...

Thank you for all your prayers! She's very slowly gaining get strength back each and every day. Today reminded me just how great our God is. He us healing and restoring my Momma back to health, and I am sooooo grateful for that! I pushed her around that mall in her wheelchair with a huge smile on my face and thanking God the whole time. It was so good to be able to share such a fun day with her. I'm so happy to share this "good" day with you all!

Be back soon!

She's Home!!

Woo Hoo!!!!!!

Mom finally made it home last Wednesday, and we all couldn't be more happier to have her at home.  Some days at home have been good, while others have been not so good.  This is to be expected, as she continues to get stronger and stronger everyday.  She has LOVED seeing and talking to all of you that have stopped by for a visit.  We all feel so loved by the continuous generosity that everyone continues to show us and her.  Here a a few pictures from last Wednesday night at church.  She was overwhelmed with emotions as you will be able to see...

little bit of crying...
lots of hugs...

these 2 are certainly happy for her to be home...

Be back soon....promise it won't be soo long!

the 1 we've been waiting for...

Today was the BIG day!  It was perfect...absolutely perfect...from the weather to her attitude.  Before I share pics from today, let me rewind to yesterday.

Yesterday was the Mercedes Mararthon in Birmingham, and 2 of her biggest fans were in it.

We are proud of you and glad we were able to cheer you on!!!

In an earlier post, I shared this about the t-shirts Julia was selling to benefit Mom.  God is soooo good and has continued to provide for her every need.  She was overwhelmed with emotions as Julia showed her, her t-shirt and listened of how many people purchased one.  Here are a few pics from their visit...

all those tears fogged up her glasses :)

We are all soooo humbled by your support!  Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

DRUMROLL please......now on to today...

Lucky Socks....check!
Pink balloons to decorate the chair...check!
Beautiful day for her last treatment...check!

It was such a beautiful day today.  The Lord was really smiling on her, blessing her with a "good" day.  It was such a bittersweet day.  As we made our way, parading around the hospital, we saw her favorite nurses that helped her along the way.  They were a Godsend, and she couldn't have been in better hands.  They will forever have a special place in our hearts.  It also brought memories back of, not so long ago, when she was in such tremendous pain and just beginning her 1st treatment.  As we were all eagerly and excitedly waiting in the lobby for her to get called back, a lady came in a sat beside her and begin to tell her story.  She was just beginning her battle and had been very sick after receiving her first treatment last week.  As she was talking, she laid her head against the chair, and I could see the pain and exhaustion in her eyes.  It doesn't seem like that long ago, that we were in her shoes.  Nervous, scarred, worried, sick, painful.  As we are celebrating Mom's journey so far tonight, I ask that you say a special prayer for her.  I can't remember her name, but I know that God knows her by name, as well as her every need.

Sarah Beth...her favorite nurse while in the hospital.  She has one of the sweetest spirits.
Our favorite "radiation plant" nurse, Leisa
"Blue" was super excited for her too!

 See ya later radiation plant!
This day couldn't have come any sooner!

Thank you all for the support that you have shown Mom.  She's coming home later this week...I'm sooo excited I can hardly stand it!!!

Battle scars...

Here are some pics I snapped this morning of her "battle" scars, as she calls them. As you will be able to see, her sunburn from the radiation plant is really beginning to hurt and burn. Dr. Keene has told her the burns should start healing as soon as 2 weeks after her last treatment, so maybe not too much longer of the burning. We hope you all have a good Saturday. Enjoy your day-it's beautiful today in Birmingham. We are thankful to be able to spend this day with our family.

If you look closely in this pic, you will see battle wounds from her first battle. She sure is tough!!!

almost there...

It's been a long time coming, but she's almost there!  Monday is her last treatment, and she couldn't be anymore excited about this being behind her.  Since my last post, not a whole lot has been going on...just treatment everyday.  She's had "good" days and "bad" days and lots of visitors in between.  Besides sickness every now and then and the burning that's occurring from the treatment, really her only other complaint is lack of energy.  She's resting a lot these days - think the treatment has really caught up to her.    We are all sooooooo, sooooooo, sooooooooooo excited for Monday!

Now, on a different note, tonight we are all so humbled by the gratitude that everyone has shown to our family since finding out about Mom's cancer.  We have, no joke, kept the Birmingham USPS in business!  Her WHOLE apartment is filled from floor to ceiling with cards, notes, letters, and pictures that you all have taken the time to send her way.  Your encouragement and inspiration keeps her going when she does not have the courage to go alone.   We could feed a small country with all the homemade desserts, food, and candy that she has received.  You name it, and I'm sure she has it...sweet, salty, hot, sour, frozen, cheesy, tart, etc, etc.  She has a wide selection of magazines, books, and crossword puzzles, and I'm almost certain that she could take a bubble bath, twice a day, for the rest of her life with all of the bath goodies.  THANK YOU seems sooo small for all that you have done for us.  Even complete strangers have lifted up prayers on her behalf, and for that, we will be forever grateful.  We are most of all thankful for the prayers.  From the simple ones to the most elaborate ones, God has heard them all.  There is no way possible for us to repay all that has been done.  We will simply pay it forward.  You all have touched our hearts in a way that can't be explained, and your generosity will be remembered forever.

SHIRTS are in!!!!  We sorted, rolled, stuffed, and tagged all of them tonight, and they should be making there way to you soon!  If you missed the first order, that's ok - Julia can still get you one.  Just email her (jewels1_03@yahoo.com) or Facebook her with your size.

Be back over the weekend for more pictures and an update!

some things to make you smile...

She's been really sick today, so I thought I would post some pics of her favorite things to make her smile and remind her of home...

Before we get started with her favorite things, this is a pic of what she probably looked like today...it snowed while she was at the radiation plant!

I'm sure she misses all of of the animals...

even the baby llamas...

... and especially bo and luke!

I know she misses pop and nana very much - nothing like having your momma and daddy close, to come make you feel better...

Very special day for her!

Glad he's there to take care of her!

Can't wait for you to come home Mom! Be back with a weekend update soon!
